Abhyangam is a full-body Ayurvedic oil massage that uses warm, herb-infused sesame oil selected for your dosha (body constitution) to relieve stress, ease muscle and joint pain, and restore natural balance. It's the most requested Ayurvedic massage in Dubai for a reason - unlike a standard spa massage, every session at Oasis Care is prescribed by an Ayurvedic physician, not chosen off a menu.
If you're dealing with desk-job stiffness, poor sleep, chronic fatigue, or just want a therapy that treats the cause and not just the symptom, Abhyangam is usually where an Ayurvedic treatment plan begins. Available at both our Dubai clinics - Karama and Abu Hail.
Abhyangam is performed over a specially designed wooden table (Droni) by trained therapists. The sesame oil, processed with various herbs, is selected based on the person's doshic type. An Ayurvedic physician assesses this and decides the appropriate oils and exact way of massage before your session begins.
Therapist preference: Male and female therapists are available at both our Karama and Abu Hail clinics - let us know your preference when booking.
Before your session: Wear comfortable, loose clothing and avoid a heavy meal in the 1-2 hours beforehand. After your session: your skin will carry a light residue of the herbal oil - this is intentional, so we recommend avoiding a second shower for a few hours to let the oils continue absorbing.
Duration of the treatment : 45-60 Minutes
Classical Ayurvedic texts, including the Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridayam, describe daily Abhyangam as part of a healthy daily routine (dinacharya). Traditionally, it is associated with:
These are traditional indications drawn from classical Ayurvedic texts and individual response varies. Abhyangam is not a substitute for diagnosed medical treatment.
Abhyangam is generally safe, but we recommend a consultation before booking if you have a fever, acute infection, or recent surgery; certain skin conditions (open wounds, active rashes, eczema flare-ups); a high-risk pregnancy; or a diagnosed cardiovascular or circulatory condition. Our physicians assess this during your free consultation before your first session.
Abhyangam is also an important and integral part of the Panchakarma procedure as a preparatory step. Here the oil is applied to the entire body with a particular type of massage which traditionally helps the toxins move towards the gastrointestinal tract. This also makes the superficial and deep tissues soft and supple.
